Newspaper: Ferries for All

For the Freedom of Movement and Equal Rights for All!
Campaign Newspaper from the transnational Project Alarmphone
The slogan “Ferries not Frontex”1 emerged in the days following the 18th of April 2015. More than 800 men, women and children drowned that day in the Central Mediterranean Sea. Only one week earlier, about 400 people had lost their lives in a similar ‘tragedy’. A tragedy? No! It could have been anticipated. The mass dying was a direct and foreseeable consequence of the EU border regime. And the dying continues. This border regime has a clear symbol: Frontex, the EU’s border agency. read more/continua...

Ferries not Frontex

10 points to really end the deaths of migrants at seaOn April 20, the Joint Foreign and Home Affairs Council of the EU released a ten- point action plan outlining their response to the recent deaths of migrants in the Mediterranean Sea. Many other proposals have also been made over the last few days. We are activists who have been involved in the struggles against the European border regime for several years and who have been in touch on a daily basis with hundreds of people who have crossed the Mediterranean through Watch The Med and the Alarm Phone project. Faced with the hypocrisy of the “solutions” that have been proposed so far, we feel compelled to undermine their falsity and attempt to open up an alternative space for reflection and action. read more/continua...

Frontex headquarter is a shame for Catania

Enough with racism and militarization: we will prevent the opening!
The announcement of the opening of an Frontex agency office in Catania is an insult and a great shame for the whole city. The Mayor of the city is guilty of a reckless act which is totally incompatible with the common feeling of the city. Catania is a city, open for antiracist welcoming and has always functioned as a bridge between people. The agency Frontex and the operation Triton are military programs of the European Union focusing on the closure of borders and the refoulement of migrants which have nothing to do with the acceptance and saving the lives of those who due to hunger, war and despair are forced to cross the Mediterranean sea on insecure boats as slaves and victims of human trafficking. read more/continua...
